O.C.G.A § 15-18-32 allows for a conflict attorney to be selected by the Investigative Panel to handle matters from which the Director has recused himself. In an abundance of caution, the Investigative panel has contracted with Daniel J. “Danny” Porter to fill that role should the need arise.
Danny graduated from the UGA School of Law in 1981 and began his legal career with the Gwinnett County District Attorney’s Office. He was elected as Gwinnett District Attorney in 1992 and served through 2020. Danny has served as chairman of the Prosecuting Attorneys Council (PAC) and as a legislative liaison for prosecutors. While DA Danny created a Special Victims Unit and started a Survivors of Homicide support group, he also helped create an accountability court as an alternative to jail for low-level drug offenses and those who need mental health treatment, and started a pre-trial diversion program for non-violent felonies.
