Randal “Randy” M. McGinley was appointed Judge of the Superior Court of the Alcovy Judicial Circuit in July 2026. Randy had previously been elected District Attorney of the Alcovy Judicial Circuit in 2020 and was reelected in 2024. Randy previously served as the President, Vice President, and Secretary of the District Attorneys’ Association of Georgia. In 2025, his fellow district attorneys named him the District Attorney of the Year. He was appointed to the State Child Fatality Review Panel by Governor Kemp.
Prior to his election in 2020, Randy had been a prosecutor in the Alcovy Circuit comprised of Walton and Newton Counties since 2011, becoming Chief Assistant District Attorney in 2017. Randy has handled every type of criminal case throughout his career. He has tried everything from DUI to drug trafficking to numerous murders, including a 1988 cold case murder. Randy has also tried numerous crimes against children as well as the high-profile white-collar racketeering cases.
Randy graduated from Georgia Tech in 2004 and ran his own business before attending law school. Randy lives in Walton County with his wife, Charly, and two daughters. He is a member of the Loganville Rotary Club, the Newton County Bar Association, and the Walton County Bar Association, and is a Board Member for A Child’s Voice Child Advocacy Center. He has worked closely with law enforcement on daily basis and trained law enforcement and prosecutors locally and throughout Georgia.
